4-DAY WEEK SERVICE

Same results. One less day. That’s the 4-Day Week.

MSH Consulting helps New Zealand organisations design, trial and implement a 4-day week with a proven service that improves productivity, wellbeing and talent attraction by working smarter, not longer.

We combine 25 years of experience in making strategy happen with our own successful transition to a 4-day week to help you build a shorter working week that works for your employees, your customers and you as business owners. As a Wellington-based consulting firm working across Aotearoa, we understand what makes Kiwis tick, how teams actually work on the ground, and the realities of achieving productivity in a NZ context.

OUR APPROACH

Change is most effective when the people who live it are part of designing it. Our 4-day week service is built on a foundation of co-design — MSH brings frameworks, tools, and expert guidance; your team brings the operational knowledge and creativity to make the 4DW work.

We use a 4-stage, 8-step model to guide you from early thinking through to permanent adoption.

HOW WE WILL WORK WITH YOU

Our aim is to co-design a 4-day week that endures.

Stage 1: Fit

1. Frame the Opportunity

We begin by helping understand why the 4-day week matters for your organisation — exploring its strategic fit, the stretch required and the value it could unlock. We look at productivity, wellbeing and operational opportunities, and shape a shared vision for success. You’ll finish this step with a confident and compelling 4DW opportunity statement that will enable you to align your leadership team.

2. Align Leadership on How to Transform to a 4DW

We bring your leadership team together to identify the specific shifts needed – in mindsets, behaviours, and ways of working – to realise your 4-day week vision. This is where excitement starts to grow as leaders see what’s possible and what success will look like in practice. You’ll walk away with a clear, leadership-endorsed case for change and priority areas to focus on during design.

Stage 2: Feasibility

3. Form the 4DW Creation Team

We help you bring together a small, innovative in-house team who will co-design your 4-day week. We focus on selecting the right people, clarifying expectations and giving them the mandate to explore new ways of working. This builds ownership and excitement from the start.

4. Design & Co-Create the 4DW Model

This is where the ideas come to life. Working alongside your in-house team, we guide your team with frameworks, tools and best-practice thinking to explore smarter ways of working, co-design the 4DW model, and start implementing the practical changes that will be tested during the pilot.  You finish this step with a pilot-ready 4-Day Week Blueprint that reflects how your organisation will operate in a shorter work week.

Stage 3: Pilot

5. Pilot, Learn & Adapt Quickly

Once your pilot begins, we support you to track progress, learn fast, and make practical adjustments to your 4DW week model. With the right KPIs, feedback loops and check-ins, your team experiences early wins and builds confidence that the 4DW can work. You’ll finish this step with real evidence, real stories, and a deeper understanding of what needs fine-tuning to bring the 4DW model to life.

6. Assess Readiness, Decide the Path

We help you evaluate the pilot objectively so you can make a clear, informed decision about moving forward. You’ll understand whether you’re ready to go permanently, need more time to embed changes, or want to refine your model further. This step gives you certainty about whether the 4DW model can be sustained — and a decision supported by data, insights and your people’s experience that can be used to communicate the pilot results to the wider organisation.

Stage 4: Make Permanent

7. Go Live & Embed the New Normal

We support your transition to a permanent 4-day week by leading change integration sessions that help leaders embed the right behaviours and ways of working. We also guide the development of KPIs aligned with your 4DW goals so your teams can perform confidently and effectively under the 4-day week model.

8. Sustain the Change, Guard the Gains

We coach leaders on how to sustain momentum, strengthen positive behaviours and avoid slipping back into old work habits. By the end of this final step, your organisation is equipped to evolve and refine the model with regular formal check-ins, ensuring your 4-day week endures, thrives and continues delivering benefits.

Based on our experience helping organisations make strategy happen and implementing a 4DW ourselves, we know it’s possible to design your model within a month, be pilot-ready in three and make it permanent within a year.
